Critters – Halloween Horror Month Movie Spectacular 2013 Day 16

For the longest time, the only Critters movie I’d seen was the second one. I recorded it off TV, but never managed to get hold of the first one, or the two further sequels. I quite liked Critters 2, so I was curious to see the rest. But it wasn’t until a few years ago that I managed to do just that through the wonders of the Internet. Realistically, much of the action in the movie consists of actors staggering around clutching a fur ball to themselves pretending to be attacked. This is no Gremlins. But it works anyway, the ugly little fur ball fugitive aliens have a certain menacing charm. It’s one of those eighties horror comedies that I have a hard time imagining getting off the ground these days. And if they did they would be ruined by bad CG. Somehow I’m more forgiving of bad practical effects. The acting in Critters is not that much better than in Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus. But it is a far more watchable movie. I’ve watched it before, I will probably watch it again. That’s the sign of a good bad movie.

About Ted Dahlberg

I'm a stoic, a pessimist, a bookworm, a skeptic, and possibly other things which take more than one word to say.
