Constantine – Halloween Horror Month Movie Spectacular 2013 Day 27

Constantine is based on the long-running (and now sadly cancelled) horror comic Hellblazer. A blonde chain-smoking trenchcoat-wearing English magician turned into a dark-haired chain-smoking American psychic exorcist? I was sceptical. Hell, I still am sceptical. I am a big fan of the comics. In no way does this movie live up to those. However. Taken entirely on its own, and through sheer power of will forgetting any connection to the comics, I like this movie. It’s not a movie featuring utter bastard (yet still likable) John Constantine. It’s a movie featuring Keanu Reeves borrowing his name, various plot points from the comics, and not much else. Eight years after the fact I can’t get too upset with that, at least it’s a decent action horror movie. It’s got some cool magic, too. And I’m far too busy being upset with the cancellation of the comic anyway.

About Ted Dahlberg

I'm a stoic, a pessimist, a bookworm, a skeptic, and possibly other things which take more than one word to say.
