Mimic – Halloween Horror Month Movie Spectacular 2014 Day 6

Mimic is a mankind tampers with nature and has to deal with the consequences kind of horror story. While I don’t really appreciate that sentiment (go science!), it can make for pretty good stories. As it does in this case. Genetically altered cockroaches are released in New York to kill their wild cousins which are spreading a disease killing the city’s children. Some time later, it turns out the Judas insects didn’t all die as planned after accomplishing their task. Then the giant bugs come out. Not my favourite movie by any stretch of the imagination, but decent enough. The incredibly unlikely disguise of the insects (think about the movie’s explanation for more than fifteen seconds and it falls apart; no human has ever seen one of these insects before and yet we are assumed to be their main predator) is really cool.

About Ted Dahlberg

I'm a stoic, a pessimist, a bookworm, a skeptic, and possibly other things which take more than one word to say.
